Recently, Indonesia celebrated its 100th year of "Kebangkitan Nasional" (er.. how do you say it in English.. "Nation Awakening"????). Independence proclamation is in 1945, but 1908 initiated the journey to the independence. Sadly saying, I feel that after 100 year Indonesia things that experience significant increase are (but not limited to):
- population --> more than 200 millions, and 60% of it are concentrated in Java Island, especially in Jakarta. Can you imagine that, the smallest of five main islands is carrying the weight of at least 120 millions people.
- country's debt --> I'm not speaking as the ones who borrowed the fund, but as the ones who are paying it.
- fuel price --> yet again! I also blame those oil/gas broker for playing with the oil distribution. Well, I agree that it's better than having to stick on current fuel price if it's only for political popularity, but PLEASE SIR! I know that oil IS pricey to begin with, but at least try thinking out wiser subsidiary plan than BLT.
- electricity tariff --> actually I would like to protest as well, but I admit that people should learn to use electricity wisely.
- corruptions --> is rooted very deep.
- flood level --> higher and higher every year
- malls --> I wonder, if people keep building more malls after so many, who are the ones who'll visit them??? The animals?
- laziness
- greed.
Honestly, those facts above made me very pessimistic with my own country. Would we end just like THAT? Aside from lame internet connections, pirated (and badly translated) manga, greedy irresponsible politicians; I love this country. I may not be nationalist of some sort, but It's my home.
